A LITTLE MORE IN-DEPTH

Van Life

SET OUT ON AN ADVENTURE

I’ve always had a passion for van life—that desire for freedom, to be able to hit the road anytime and go anywhere. The only thing I was missing was some travel buddies, whom I’ve recently found.
My first road trip was three years ago, when I headed to the West Coast to go surfing with friends. That was a real eye-opener for me. I’d already been admiring this lifestyle for a few years, but after that trip, I told myself, “I have to buy my own van and set off on an adventure!”
Well, it’s already 2022 and I still don’t have my van, but the dream is still alive—and that hasn’t stopped me from setting out several times to explore new roads with the woman who shares my life today. Heading to the mountains, sleeping under the stars by a crackling fire, visiting castles in Germany, or soaking in hot springs deep in the heart of Sardinia.

ALWAYS NEAR THE SEA

I love the peace and quiet and the atmosphere of the mountain forests, but never for too long!

I need to have the sea close by, which is why I don't want to leave Marseille—whether it's in the summer, when I go swimming literally every day, or in the winter, when I walk along the rocks as the storm sends waves crashing against them, creating a spectacular sight.

Even more so now that my Laurine has introduced me to the joys of snorkeling—even though I used to be completely uncomfortable in the water, I now enjoy diving down into the depths to observe the marine life and even take a few photos of my sweetheart.

Otherwise, when I’m not out and about, I spend most of my time at home; I love being at home doing nothing, I love eating well and sleeping a lot—long live sleeping in! But I’m always surrounded by my cats—life without cats is unthinkable.

I already spend a lot of time at the computer editing my photos, but I also really enjoy gaming with my friends—killing zombies on Call of Duty and racking up No. 1 rankings in Warzone (yep, thanks to the lockdown for all those hours of intense training, haha).

And watching movies and TV shows—I spend my life watching something on my second screen while I work; I’ve devoured almost the entire Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ catalogs. But nothing beats a good movie at the theater with a bag of popcorn.

Film Photography

I like using film because this format makes me work differently. With a 36-exposure roll of film, I don’t just snap photos at random: I take the time to observe the light, frame the shot, and wait for the moment that matters.

At weddings, I use film as a complement to digital photography. Digital photography gives me the freedom to be responsive throughout the day; film forces me to slow down. The two complement each other naturally within the same gallery.

I work mainly with a small Minolta and a Nikon FE & F4. Each has its own personality and requires precision, but that’s exactly what I love about them: they force me to pay closer attention to the subject, the moment, and what’s happening around me.

The grain, the colors, and the little surprises of film then give the images a unique texture. It’s not about striving for perfection—it’s another way of seeing and telling the story of a day.

My film camera doesn’t just sit in the closet between weddings. I take it on vacation, I have it with me at parties with friends, and I also use it to photograph everyday moments. It’s a practice that’s part of my daily life, not just my work.
